Photography, for me, is my rebellion against the demands of perfection and performance. Rather than curating something that feels worthy of being seen, I have learned to chase the beauty of the light that’s already there. I know what it’s like to be a woman, a partner, a mom. I know how important it is to find the light- the beauty.

Photographers throw around lots of words to describe their style: lifestyle, editorial, fine art, traditional. My approach is documentary and leans towards photojournalism. It’s about telling the story of your family by noticing the way love moves among you, and photographing the meaningful moments of emotion and relational connection.

If you want incredible family photographs, the secret is to show up with the vulnerability of being wildly happy and then fully immersing yourself in the delight of your family. There is a feast prepared before you, I simply invite you to show up, to slow down, and to savor the joy in your life.

“I often wonder if there are versions of ourselves that we can only find through other people.”

I read this somewhere, but can’t remember where. I no longer wonder. I think moms know. There are versions of ourselves that we find through our children. It’s a beautiful process that brings joy and grief. So, there is something especially sacred for me in creating a portrait of a mom, specifically, during a long-form family session.

I’m watching and waiting for those moments that somehow magnify the beauty and strength of a mama. This one happened in a moment when 2 precious little girls both wanting to sit on her lap. And suddenly, there she was- radiating this stunning beauty in the middle of tiny people needing her at the same time. Love does that to us; love is so needy, but it makes us so beautiful.

This is my standard family session, and I know at first glance, 2 hours feels so long. But trust me, it isn’t. By simply adding on 1 hour to what’s industry standard for family photography, I eliminate most of your stress! Seriously.

You won’t feel the need to conjure up moments or bribe your kids into participating well. Time is a gift, and transforms creating family photos into a beautiful, enjoyable experience. I promise.

01. Will you guide us? we are so awkward in front of cameras.

Yes. My goal is to make you SO COMFORTABLE. Your photoshoot is about connection with each other, but also with me. Comfort happens when I feel like a friend, and not like a stranger. I will get to know you more, and allow you to get to know me. Since your photoshoot is longer, we will have time to have conversation and ease into beautiful moments with your family.

While Documentary Photography is photojournalistic in style, we all have difference experiences being seen. It's not always easy, so I'll direct when appropriate and help you along the way, always attuning to your family's needs.

02. When can we expect our gallery?

I'm a mom, too, and the hardest part about taking photos is the waiting to see them! Your photos will be delivered within a week of your session.

03. do you Do Mini Sessions or Offer Something Shorter Than 2 Hours?

The answer is not really. I used to, but the photos you see on my website are nearly impossible to create in short windows of time. If you are choosing me because of the photos you see here, you have to trust me: you don't want a short session.

However, I know there are individual cases that are appropriate for short sessions, so please reach out and let's talk about it!
